2005 Texas State Junior Braunvieh Show

Junior members are back from the San Antonio shows and will be Houston bound this next week. Fifteen exhibitors brought twenty head to the Junior show. The judge for the event was Mr. Fred Rayfield of Adel, Georgia. For his Grand Champion, he used Jena Southard’s heifer Loretta. His pick for Reserve Grand Champion was Mike Helle’s entry, Ms. TLC Black Nakita N3106. Mike’s calf was also Senior Heifer Champion, while Jena’s won Junior Heifer Champion. The other division, Champion Heifer Calf, was won by Victoria Zulim and her entry, WTR Prime Time Cleopatra. Congratulations kids, your cattle looked really sharp.

In the showmanship portion, it was just to close to call. Jeff Hampton of Keller, Texas evaluated the show and came up with these placings.

  • 3 - Nevada Huffman
  • T4 - Bridgett O’Brian
  • T4 - Jena Southard

The points race is in full swing after two shows. Remember that one show of the five that are included will be dropped, so keep working hard to keep things close. Last year the Top Hand Awards weren’t decided until the Summer Show. The leaders after San Antonio ( top 10 and ties ) are -

  • 1 - Jena Southard - 305 points
  • 2 - Nevada Huffman - 280 points
  • 3 - Victoria Zulim - 255 points
  • 4 - Kasey Blezinger - 230 points
  • 5 - Jake Powell - 215 points
  • 6 - Meagan Mohr - 205 points
  • 7 - Mike Helle - 175 points
  • T8 - Kaitlin O’Brian - 170 points
  • T8 - Marshall Mohr - 170 points
  • 10 - Meagan McAdams - 165 points

The 2005 State Show is set for June 3rd & 4th. It will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Brenham, Texas. More information will follow. The TJBBA will have a meeting Tuesday, March 1st @ the Yellow Rose’s stalls in Houston. It will be at 3:00 p.m. and the State Show will be discussed. Please stop by if you have the chance.

The TJBBA held their annual meeting at San Antonio to elect 2005 officers. They are:

TJBBA members were out in good numbers at the 109th Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Fort Worth. Eighteen TJBBA junior exhibitors brought thirty-one of the sixty-two entries in the Braunvieh Classic Heifer Show. They accounted for three of the class winners, six second place entries and good quality top to bottom.

David Allan of Schulenburg, Texas was judge for the show. In the junior champion portion of the show he picked member Lindy EdwardsÕ entries for both Grand and Reserve. Congratulations Lindy!

Bob McKinnon of Decatur, Texas judged the showmanship portion of the show. He narrowly picked Megan McAdams of Beaumont over Carrie Rodriques of Goliad. The top five in showmanship are:

  • 2 * Carrie Rodriques, Goliad
  • 3 * Victoria Zulim, Hockley
  • 4 * Marshall Mohr, Hobson
  • 5 * Kasey Blezinger, Sulphur Springs

  • T5 * Carrie Rodriques, Goliad Ð 105 points
  • T5 * Jena Southard, Perrin Ð 105 points
  • T8 * Matthew Clark, Van Ð 100 points
  • T8 * Marshall Mohr, Hobson Ð 100 points
  • T8 * Kaitlin OÕBrien, Boerne Ð 100 points

  • Everyone else is tied for 14th with 65 points.

Congratulations to all the juniors and thanks for your hard work in helping promote the Braunvieh breed.

The juniors will have their annual meeting during the San Antonio Junior Show week. The meeting will be held at 7:30 PM on Thursday Feb. 10th, 2005. It will be held at the Holiday Inn ( 3855 IH35 North, San Antonio, Texas ). The phone # is 210-226-4361.

The 2005 State Show is tentatively set for June 3rd and 4th. It will be discussed along with this yearÕs fund raiser at San Antonio, so please try to attend.

The Texas Braunvieh Association (TBA) in an effort to promote academic excellence; to promote interest in cattle care and exhibition; and to promote the Braunvieh breed, will provide an incentive to the Texas Junior Braunvieh
Breeders Association (TJBBA) exhibitors in the form of awards and scholarships.

TEXAS BRAUNVIEH ASSOCIATION
2004 JUNIOR AWARDS PROGRAM

In an effort to increase participation, make awards available to a greater % of the Junior membership, and create a program that supports a larger portion of its cost, the TBA board offers the following for 2004.  We hope that it creates a competitive environment that keeps all our members involved.  Our goal is to reward members that excel in areas that will help lead them to be successful adults.

 The 2004 awards program will be based on a points system that will culminate at a year end show held in June.  The points system will be based on the following:

1 – Participation in shows
2 – Placing in shows
3 – Showmanship
4 – Participation in fund raisers
5 – Essay contest (optional)
6 – Grades (optional)

Awards for 2004 will be as follows.  We hope to increase the numbers of winners if the program takes off.

1 - $1,000.00 Calf certificate and custom jacket

2 - $   800.00 Calf certificate and custom jacket

3 - $   600.00 Calf certificate and custom jacket

4 - $   400.00 Gift certificate or calf certificate and custom jacket

5 - $   200.00 Gift certificate or calf certificate and custom jacket

Calf certificates will be redeemable at Texas Braunvieh Association member ranches.

Gift certificates will be redeemable at farm and ranch suppliers now being negotiated.

High school graduates will be able to receive cash in lieu of certificates.
