TEXAS BRAUNVIEH ASSOCIATION
2004 JUNIOR AWARDS PROGRAM
In an effort to increase participation, make awards available to a greater % of the Junior membership, and create a program that supports a larger portion of its cost, the TBA board offers the following for 2004. We hope that it creates a competitive environment that keeps all our members involved. Our goal is to reward members that excel in areas that will help lead them to be successful adults.
The
2004 awards program will be based on a points system that will culminate at a
year end show held in June. The points
system will be based on the following:
1 – Participation in shows
2 – Placing in shows
3 – Showmanship
4 – Participation in fund raisers
5 – Essay contest (optional)
6 – Grades (optional)
Awards
for 2004 will be as follows. We hope to
increase the numbers of winners if the program takes off.
1 - $1,000.00 Calf certificate and
custom jacket
2 - $
800.00 Calf certificate and custom jacket
3 - $
600.00 Calf certificate and custom jacket
4 - $
400.00 Gift certificate or calf certificate and custom jacket
5 - $
200.00 Gift certificate or calf certificate and custom jacket
Calf
certificates will be redeemable at Texas Braunvieh Association member ranches.
Gift
certificates will be redeemable at farm and ranch suppliers now being
negotiated.
High
school graduates will be able to receive cash in lieu of certificates.

1 – Fort Worth Livestock Exposition
2 – San Antonio Junior Show
3 – Houston Livestock Show
4 – Rio Grande Valley Show

Points based on show entered. If open show, placings in that event are ones

2004 JUNIOR
AWARDS PROGRAM
Showmanship
A showmanship contest will be judged by some number of
directors and/or persons appointed by the board*, to be held during the
show. This will be held, not as a class
by itself, but by viewing during the event.
The judges will not be identified to the exhibitors prior to the
show. Judging will be based on ring
skills, animal grooming and personal appearance.

- Third 30
- Fourth 20
- Fifth 10

sanctioned show without effect on chances to complete.
Fundraising
To help the program pay it’s
way this is a mandatory portion of the new awards program. Members will receive 1 point per dollar
raised thru the junior fund raising program.
The minimum required to be eligible is $25. A maximum has been set at $200.00. A raffle is now being set up for a heifer
calf (by the juniors). The calf will not
be available until the September sale in West, Texas. Raffle tickets may be sold until then, but
only those sold and turned in by the check in time at the Waxahachie show will
be awarded points. Tickets mailed must
be received by May 21, 2004. You should
get more info on the raffle from your junior board soon.
2004 JUNIOR
AWARDS PROGRAM
Essay Contest
This portion of the program is optional, but points will be given. Members will receive 100 points for an entry that meets guidelines of contest. Essays will then be graded and additional points awarded based on how they score on a 0-100 scale. Members age and grade level will be factored into grading.
The guidelines for the essay
contest are as follows:
1. Essays are to be between 200 and 350 words.
2. Essays do not have to be typed, but appearance and neatness will affect
presentation.
3. Essays must be turned in by check in time at the Waxahachie show.
4. Mailed entries must be received by May 21, 2004.
Board will not
be responsible for late entries.
5. Please put your name, age and grade level on entry.
6. Essays should be on one of the following subjects.
Agriculture in
a changing world.
Braunvieh –
the good, the bad and the ugly.
Why I show
cattle and how it effects my life.
Grades
Also an optional part of the
program, but an important part of our junior members accomplishments. Grades should be turned in at same time essays are due. Most current grade report available (any
semester – 2004) is acceptable.
Board will not be
responsible for late entries.
Points will be given based
on the following:
GPA System – 25 points x GPA
(on 4.0 system – max. 100 points)
100 Point System – points =
grade average (max. 100 points)
